Quick note before we start: not every MOONBOOKS notebook is refillable, and that's by design, not an oversight. Here's the lineup:
- Maker's Notebook A5 — a fixed, bound notebook (128 sheets). Not refillable — once it's full, it's a finished record, and you start a new one.
- Traveler's Journal Wirebound — refillable. A wirebound ring mechanism lets you swap paper refills or pocket inserts in and out.
- Traveler's Journal Triobook — refillable. Holds up to three separate booklet inserts inside one cover, secured with a strap.

Refilling the Traveler's Journal Wirebound
- Reach the last page. You'll feel it — the wire rings are the part doing the work, not glue or stitching, so there's nothing fragile to worry about as you go.
- Open the ring mechanism. The wirebound design is built to open and close on purpose — this is what lets you rearrange or remove pages without damaging the cover.
- Slide the used refill out. Each refill (paper or pocket insert) sits on the rings independently, so you can remove just the one you've finished.
- Choose your next refill. We currently offer Blank, 5mm Dotted, and 7mm Ruled (with a date line) paper refills, all 96 sheets of 80gsm cream paper — plus four pocket styles (2-slot secure, 1-slot zippered, 1-slot large, 3-slot card) if you want to add or refresh storage instead of writing pages.
- Slide the new refill onto the rings and close the mechanism. Your cover, ruler, and any engraving stay exactly as they were — only the inside content changes.
Refilling the Traveler's Journal Triobook
The Triobook works differently — instead of a ring mechanism, it holds up to three separate booklet inserts side by side under a secure strap. When one booklet is full, you replace just that booklet and keep the other two (and the cover) in place. If you're not sure which insert style you have or need, reach out to us directly before ordering a replacement and we'll point you to the right one.
Choosing between Blank, Dotted, and Ruled
- Blank — best for sketching, mind-mapping, or anyone who doesn't want lines dictating how they write.
- 5mm Dotted — a light grid that helps you align text or simple drawings without the page feeling like a worksheet. The most popular middle ground.
- 7mm Ruled (with date line) — best if you're using your journal like a daily log or planner and want a consistent place to mark the date.
There's no wrong choice — most people land on dotted first and branch out once they know how they actually use the page.
